There are lots of decisions to make when you begin planning the build of your new home.
Amongst many others, you have to decide whether you should opt for a custom build home or go with a project build. It’s a personal decision that will depend on a number of different factors but ultimately it will be about finding the right builder to suit your needs. Here’s a bit of a rundown on the two options you’re faced with when building your new home.
Project Homes
Project homes are a little bit like buying from a catalogue. You choose from the plan that best suits what you’re looking for but the adaptions you can make are limited to pre-designed upgrade packages. The upgrade options would be something like the addition of a patio, driveway or landscaping to the base house.
Going for a project home is by far an easier option since you don’t have to think too hard about design. Another benefit is that there are often display homes already built that you can look around and get a feel for what it would be like to live in. Plus they’re generally a much faster build.
Custom Build Homes
Getting to design your home from scratch to all your own unique specifications—it’s an innovator’s dream! You can completely tailor a custom build home to suit your needs and preferences. This fully flexible approach is best suited to sloping block, narrow blocks or battleaxe blocks—for those more complex sites that project homes may not account for. It’s also the best option if you’re looking for something completely unique or just have a vision of a specific floor layout to suit your family, your block of land or even your budget.
Generally speaking, it’s entirely up to you which option you choose, however sometimes, depending on where you buy your land, you may be required to adhere to particular policies. An example of this is with estates.
Quite often you’ll find estates are full of project homes. However, there are a few estates that won’t allow project builds as they don’t want any two homes to look the same.
Some of the estates we build in around Newcastle and Lake Macquarie include Trinity Point, Murray’s Beach, Catherine Hill Bay, Morisset and Chisholm. Sloane homes also builds outside of new land estates for that knockdown rebuild you may want to do.
Personally, we love working with clients on their custom build homes. It’s such a thrill watching their reactions as they see their dream home come to life. Plus it allows for some creative licence on our part that project builds don’t always have.
